Let’s face it. Rock concerts are expensive. When you spend good money for tickets to a rock concert you want to have a great time and hear and see a great show. Of all the seats in the house, which one do you choose? The following steps should help you figure that out.
Things You’ll Need:
- A concert you want to attend
- An idea of what the venue is like
- Step 1
Decide what is most important to you. Do you want to see well? Hear the best sound? Get the least expensive tickets? These all have a bearing on where you want to sit.
- Step 2
Head for the center. Seats near the center of the stage generally have the best view and also have the best sound.
- Step 3
Sit right in front of the soundboard if you are interested in the best sound. The soundperson is responsible for making the sound the best it can be to every seat in the house, but it is only natural that it will be optimized at the location where the controls are. Why in FRONT of the board? Simple, it is probably easier to see the stage if you are in front of the board. There may be racks of equipment that obscure your view, and sometimes the soundperson stands up to adjust things. On the other hand, if you are interested in watching the soundperson, then sit behind the soundboard.
- Step 4
Avoid the main speaker cabinets. Not only can they be deafeningly loud, but they can obscure your view.
- Step 5
Get closer to the stage if you are mostly interested in seeing the act. Be careful, though, because if you are too close you may strain your neck from looking up at the performers. You may also not be able to see “the big picture” of the act if you are too close. On the other hand, if you want to see how a particular instrumentalist plays, the closer the better.
- Step 6
Optimize for price. Sometimes the difference between being in a cheaper section is one row. So – choose to be in the front row of a lower cost section than the last row of a more expensive section.
- Step 7
Have fun and sit with your friends. Of course, any concert experience is better when your friends surround you. So, try not to worry too much and find seats where you can all sit together.
